Well, it has been around seemingly forever...
![]() 12/02/2015 at 13:04 |

I wouldn’t because cars were niche items in 1902 and I’m just a poor mill worker.

A really fast horse!

At first I was like, “I want something with a roof.”
Then I saw this glorious beast.
I’ll take a Westfield thanks

Obvious answer is obvious. 1902 Packard Model F Runabout
And if you do not mind can you link my previous game in from Monday so that I can keep track of what years have been done? I don’t want to repeat any years with this game

I’ll stick with my horse, thank you.
You’d have to be a maniac to ride on something run by explosions.
![]() 12/02/2015 at 13:16 |

I’d take any of them because they all had those awesome skinny tires back then.

I would have said Adams Farwell, but they werent’ really in proper production until 1905. Probably a Duryea or Peerless.

I’ll take Walter Baker’s 1902 Torpedo

My answer was an Electric. Maybe you’re “Back in my Day!” guy would approve?

Not where my name came from, but it was coincidental and perfect for this topic! And all our cars have HORSEPOWER!

Imagine if we wrote about cars like people do horses.
“Pontiac was sired by General Motors but did not have the desirable traits of its siblings Cadillac and Chevrolet. The bloodlines of the family run deep as they can be traced to some of the most magnificent coach makers of Europe. But ultimately Pontiac had to be shot in the head because it simply wasn’t good enough to carry the GM bloodline.”

Think of all the dead ‘horses’ involved in this!....but then what about the ‘revived’ horses?
![]() 12/02/2015 at 13:29 |
|
They weren’t impossible to get, just really pricey for what you got, with a long wait time and questionable support, etc. etc.. That got changed as much or more than the price when Ford, et al came on the scene.
A mechanic friend of the Wright Brothers bought one around 1901, and the jibe they and friends made wasn’t “wow you spent a life’s savings” it was “you need a sheet underneath it to catch falling bolts”. The two I listed, Duryea and Peerless, were close enough to mass production that people could start to afford them - the Duryeas were popular as a doctor’s car.

I was reading some alternate history/magic type book a while back, and there was something of that nature going on. Popular car makes as makers of magical conveyances/creatures that were alive.

This 1902 Autocar is pretty stylish. And it already had prop drive!

Of course I can.

1902? Walking or riding a horse would probably be safest. But if I had to buy a car I’d roll like a gangster -
![]() 12/02/2015 at 13:55 |

Due to gasoline cars being a bit of a pain in the ass to operate in 1902, I’d go for a White steam car. A steam car of the day was much faster than any gasoline car anyways.
![]() 12/02/2015 at 14:34 |
|
That was my choice. Legendary car.

A steam-powered Locomobile that was apparently steered using the Force.

Oldsmobile.
Ever notice how many appear in each London to Brighton run? They weren’t cheap enough for the working class, but they were cheap enough for the middle class and they sold thousands of them.

The first car with a sideview mirror... although it was intended to view the boiler sight glass.
![]() 12/02/2015 at 15:00 |

Actually I just noticed that on this one there is even a tiny oil lamp apparently just there to illuminate the sight glass. I can’t imagine driving something like this in the dark though.
![]() 12/02/2015 at 15:07 |
|
Oh yeah. Look at that. It would have been a literal nightmare to drive in the dark, but best to be prepared, I guess.

I guess this would have been available for purchase if you’d offered enough dosh;
1902 Baker electric car; apparently the first car to push past 100mph, although it didn’t get in the record books, as it was crashed. Built and driven by this guy;

I’ve just posted this too; You beat my by about three and a half hours, but I didn’t see this before I posted. I did include a picture of baker sticking two fingers up at the camera with mine, though.

Either way, wise selection my friend.
